At Scottsdale Academy, we believe the best way for young children to learn is through play — or what we call “strategic fun.”
It’s not a loose concept. It’s a teaching philosophy backed by decades of research. Every activity is planned. Every center has a purpose. And every child goes home having learned something new — even if they think they just had a fun day.
Our preschoolers program serves children ages 3 to 4 years.
We use the Beyond Centers and Circle Time® curriculum — a nationally recognized, developmentally appropriate approach to early childhood education.
Every classroom has dedicated teachers who plan lessons each month. Lesson plans are reviewed by our Dean of Curriculum to make sure activities are age-appropriate and reflect our curriculum goals.
Each day includes two key components:
Circle time is where the class comes together. Teachers introduce the weekly theme, review the calendar and preview the day's activities. Kids are encouraged to participate, share ideas and engage with each other.
Children are engaged in auditory learning throughout circle time. Each individual child is always encouraged to interact amongst his or her peers and teachers as part of our early childhood development objectives.
Center time is where the kids' creativity really shows. We have multiple, interchanging learning centers available each day:
Each center builds fine motor skills, critical thinking, hand-eye coordination and one-to-one correspondence. Kids choose, explore and create — with teachers nearby to guide and engage.
Our curriculum is organized around monthly themes that keep learning fresh and connected. Every theme ties into colors, shapes, letters and age-appropriate concepts.
January through December, every week has a focus — from Birds in My Neighborhood to Ocean Life to Fairy Tales.
All preschool curriculum components are presented in a way that children love to learn.
